Singapore’s largest bank – DBS – has announced a partnership with Ethereum-based gaming platform – The Sandbox – to design an interactive metaverse experience – DBS BetterWorld – as part of its bigger roadmap to explore and integrate more Web 3.0 opportunities for its customers.
This latest partnership marks DBS as the first Singaporean entity to collaborate with the Animoca Brands’ subsidiary as it joins DBS’ ambitious “SingaporeVerse”. SingaporeVerse is a neighborhood on its virtual map that seeks to bring the lifestyle and culture of the city-state to life in virtual reality.
The official press release stated that DBS BetterWorld will highlight the importance of “building a better, more sustainable world, and inviting others to come alongside”. As part of the partnership, DBS plans to purchase a digital 3×3 plot of real estate in The Sandbox’s metaverse – LAND – which will be built and developed with immersive elements.
DBS said it will engage partners and collaborators from the government, business, community and technology sectors while exploring opportunities to showcase DBS BetterWorld using the recently launched digital platform, LiveBetter. The goal is to promote eco-conscious living among its customers. DBS will also buy carbon offsets to ensure that the land and production on DBS BetterWorld stays carbon-neutral.
The partnership was announced just a day after The Sandbox’s official Instagram profile was hacked. Reports suggested that the attackers tried to steal Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs from several users on Instagram. After bypassing the firm’s two-factor authentication and other security measures, the hackers changed The Sandbox profile’s website URL to promote a fake giveaway.
