Professional American football team, Houston Texans is the latest National Football League (NFL) team to accept Bitcoin as payment for its products and services. Fans can now buy access to the club’s single game suites using Bitcoin and the club said it has already made it’s first crypto sale to EWR digital marketing agency.
Single game suites are exclusive viewing spaces in stadiums that accommodate a small number of fans with access to unique benefits like food and beverages and other customized GameDay experiences.
This new development is part of a partnership between the club and US-based crypto platform Bitwallet. The announcement also said that the latter has become the official digital cryptocurrency wallet of the Houston Texans. Bitwallet will facilitate payments for the game suites and convert the takings to USD for the club.
Fans can also pay with other cryptocurrencies aside from BTC like Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as these assets are supported on the Bitwallet platform. The CEO of Bitwallet – John T. Perrone – commented on the partnership, noting that digital currency is fast becoming a primary means of payment and the Texans are leading the way in the NFL by partnering with Bitwallet.
Although the Houston Texans claim to be the first NFL team to accept payments for products and services in cryptocurrency, Nashville-based Tennessee Titans announced a partnership with digital asset fund UTXO Management in April to enable Bitcoin payments, allowing fans to purchase season tickets, sponsorships and game suites with Bitcoin.
Asides from the Texans and Titans, other NFL teams have gained exposure to cryptocurrency through exclusive sponsorship deals and partnerships. The Dallas Cowboys signed a sponsorship deal with crypto exchange BlockchainCom making the exchange the official digital asset sponsor and partner of the NFL club.
