Crypto payments and non-fungible token (NFT) service provider MoonPay announced on Thursday that it has brought in a good number of top executives to help improve the company. This is coming at a time when most crypto exchanges are laying off their workers.

Asiff Hirji who was the president of Coinbase and also occupied the position of COO between 2017 and June 2019, according to his LinkedIn profile, will be joining the company as an advisor to the CEO. Hirji also had a stint as president of blockchain fintech company Figure.

Other big names include former VP of engineering at Block and CTO at Afterpay Akash Garg, who will be coming in as CTO. The former head of operations at Cash App will be joining the company as COO. Joining also as head of marketing is Garret McManus previously head of artist development at Cash App. The new head of corporate development is Abhay Mavalankar who was the former head of venture investments and M&A at Cisco Investments.

The former head of web3 at the Creative Artist Agency will also join as the head of MoonPay Studios – A new part of the company whose role is to help ideate and nurture corporate ideas for NFT drops.

MoonPay has moved on to diversify its business model from its actual product in recent months, which originally was a fiat to crypto on-ramping API.

This hiring spree is quite unusual as the current market turmoil has promoted recent layoffs from several companies including BlockFi, Coinbase, Bitpanda, Crypto.com, and others.
