FORMER FIRST BANK CHAIRMAN – IBUKUN AWOSIKA – SELECTED ON BINANCE’S GLOBAL ADVISORY BOARD

The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange – Binance – has selected some prominent former government officials including Ibukun Awosika (former chairman of First Bank Nigeria) to serve on a global board of advisers as the company wants the best minds possible to help it negotiate through the regulatory and political minefield which the cryptocurrency industry is fast becoming.

 

The board – led by Max Baucus (former U.S. Senate Finance Committee chairman and Ambassador to China) – includes David Wright (former secretary general of the International Organization of Securities Commissions), Bruno Bézard (former head of the French Treasury and economic adviser to the prime minister), Henrique de Campos Meirelles (Brazil’s former minister of the economy and one-time president of its central bank) others which include:

 

* David Plouffe; a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama

 

* Edward Vaizey; a member of the U.K.’s House of Lords who was a former minister of state for culture and the digital economy

 

*Christin Schäfer; a former banker in Germany who also founded a data consulting firm

 

*Adalberto Palma Gómez, a former Mexican Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) president.

 

*Ibukun Awosika; Former chairman of First Bank Nigeria

 

*HyungRin Bang; a former executive director of Samsung and Hyundai that currently works as a political adviser in Korea

 

*Leslie Maasdorp; Vice president and CFO of the New Development Bank who previously worked in the South African government and with Bank of America’s Merrill Lynch, Barclays and Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

 

Ibukun Awosika was the first woman to lead the First Bank of Nigeria when it became a prominent Tier 1 bank in 2015. She has also served as chairman of Kakawa Discount House Limited, FBN Capital Limited, and FBN Life Assurance Limited. She was also on the National Job Creation Committee and Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NJCC) boards respectively.

 

She is a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and the Aspen Global Leadership Network, a director on the board of the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund, a honorary participant in the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and a former chairperson and co-founder of the Board of Trustees of Women in Management, Business and Public Service.
